inspired by the past; looking towards the future

a worktop which acts as a spatial separator for a doctor’s consult room

the brief

to create an enduring piece of furniture
which reduces the amount of time a doctor has to turn her back on a patient

The ideas

shibui – stringent, strict, sparse
wabi – quiet, solitary and serene
sabi – rusty, antique and patinated

The materials

all of our furniture is manufactured from sustainably-grown timbers
this particular piece was originally constructed from c-c grade shutterply

The solution

by placing the two credenzas below the table
– as opposed to a single unit-
we minimise any wasted storage volume
and by cantilevering the tabletop out towards the patient-side of the desk, we create space enough for two visitors at a time

Closing thoughts

furniture should always be architecture on a smaller scale
